Block an outdated version of your page
If you see an older version of content in Google Search results from an updated web page, you can request that the older, cached page be blocked from Google Search results. (Only for HTML-based content.)
Block the cached version of a page from Google Search results
- Go to the URL removal tool.
- Enter the URL of the updated page exactly as it appears in your browser when you navigate to it.
(How to find the right URL.)
- Click Request Removal.
- The Analyzing URL panel appears which asks "Has the site owner updated or removed the content?"
Leave Yes as the choice and click Next.
- The next panel offers you the choice to update the snippet or remove the content. Click Next to update the Search snippet and cache.
- Finally, provide a word from the old version that is NOT in the new version.
- Click Request Removal.
Once Google confirms that the submitted word(s) no longer appear on the page, the search result will no longer show a snippet and the cached page will not be available. Once the page is re-indexed, the updated snippet and new page can be visible in search results. Users will still be able to visit the live page. Because this information has been removed from the live page, this page will not return as a result for searches on related keywords after our next crawl. As you may know, Don’t describe the removed content or the changes made; instead, explicitly provide a word that was in the old version but is missing from the new. For example, the cached page might contain your name, which has since been removed from the live version. In this case, don’t write "my name has been removed," but rather enter your actual name ("Sylvia") as it appears in the cached version.
